Come to Malmi Youth Centre to plan and carry out our activities together with other young people and our youth workers. The youth centre has a hall to do all kinds of sports in. Upstairs in the handicrafts room, you can let your creativity flow while crafting, sewing or revamping your clothes. Downstairs in the band rehearsal space and studio everyone gets to try out different instruments. We also have facilities where you can chill out or do all sorts of activities. Girls have their own room where they can hang out with other girls or enjoy SingStar. In our kitchen, everyone can do some cooking or enjoy a little snack. We also have board and video games in addition to computers with internet access.
The best way to influence our activities is to attend our house meetings that take place every other week. The dates and times are posted on our noticeboard! At the house meeting, young people make decisions on e.g. our events, new ideas or decoration.
To participate in our activities, you need a valid membership card. Collect the membership card application form at the youth centre. The membership card is free and entitles you to make use of all the youth centres, other Youth Department facilities and events in Helsinki, Vantaa, Espoo and Kauniainen.
Malmi Youth Centre has instructed music activities!
Malmi Youth Centre organises music lessons on Fridays. Our instruments include a guitar, a bass, the drums and a piano. The lessons are either private or in groups of two or three, according to needs and wishes.
Would you like to play in a band, find new band mates or learn great songs? We have instructed band activities for 13- to 17-year-olds. All instruments and participants are welcome!
Our band rehearsal space features a drum set with double pedals, electric guitars with amps, a keyboard and proper microphone equipment. Feel free to come to the youth centre to rehearse or jam it out with our music instructor. With our music instructor, you can try out all our instruments and trustworthy people can reserve the facilities for their own use.
Next to the band rehearsal space is our digital 16-track studio, where it’s possible to record high-quality demos, edit videos and learn the art of multimedia. Make your own song or record!
The events and band nights at the youth centre offer a chance to play gigs. If you’re interested in our music activities, come to the youth centre to set up regular practise times. There are time slots for everyone so you don’t have to have a band in order to practise playing. For reservations, contact us via telephone, email or face to face at the youth centre.
Girls have their own room decorated according to the wishes of young people themselves. In our girls’ room you can enjoy PlayStation 2 and 3, listen to music, watch TV or surf the internet. On regular nights, the room is available for all girls. The room can also be reserved through our youth workers for your own use, e.g. if you want to throw a birthday party.
Thursdays are all about crafting. We make our own jewellery, try out textile printing and have a go at easy handicrafts. We provide newly renovated facilities and quality materials. Crafting is part of our open activities.

Participate and influence!
Every year, we choose a number of peer instructors out of the young people visiting Malmi Youth Centre. They are called Nutakummit and they organise different events, camps and theme nights both in and outside the youth centre. Their most important tasks are to familiarise newcomers with the activities and traditions of the youth centre and promote togetherness. Thanks to Nutakummit, everyone visiting the youth centre feels at home. You can meet our Nutakummit at evenings organised for 7th graders among other events. Nutakummit are there just for you to play a game with or talk to.
Nutakummit consist of girls and boys between the ages of 13 and 17 who have been involved in the activities at the youth centre usually for years. Their positive attitude is rewarded with acknowledgement and they also gain work experience in different duties. Nutakummit receive training and a certificate and they have a chance to organise their own activities, e.g. camps.
